Newby hunting

Postby MisterMichaelz » Sun Jan 29, 2012 3:12 pm

Not to be confused with the noob hunting threads in the inn, where they discuss hunting down and killing new players.

A thread about hunting, for newbies.
Strategies, whining about dying to ants, millions of links to the same wiki article, you know it.
The thrill of riding your boat with your newly crafted sling in your hand, looking for a fox or boar to shoot and all that jazz.

I'll start with wondering how newbies should go about killing foxes.
I've killed 2 boars so far, by getting a good shot in, and then just running after them and slapping them on the ass to do MAXIMUM DAMAGE.
Foxes on the other hand...

I've tried running after them, to no avail, due to their speed and pathfinding. I've tried to fight them with 10 UA, and nearly died trying. Currently going to try trapping one by the beach with signs and then pelting it with stones. What do you fine fellows recommend?

Range it from a boat, just grab aggro and haul ass to your boat and sling it to death. Should die in 2-3 rocks.

My preferred method: trapping one by the beach with signs and then pelting it with stones. :) But you don't need the signs once you understand about only shooting it when it twitches. Will definitely take more than three stones if you have a low q sling.

Well, that didn't go quite as expected...

So I trap it with signs, fire off some terrible shots that do around 15 damage, after my fourth stone I notice that it now has an olive branch next to its portrait, neato. Then, for no reason, it smashes one of the signs behind it, before turning towards the lake and standing perfectly still. As in, remaining in combat, but not "twitching".
Kinda odd but whatever. So I fire another stone. This time it destroys all remaining signs, and then stands perfectly still, again!
One more stone while it stands there like a statue, and it scurries off into the forest to never be seen again.

What just happened? Did i experience a bug?

Hmm. I have no idea why it broke the sign, unless it thought it get closer to you by doing that. If that happens again (with the olive branch appearing), break combat, re-fence it in and start again, only shooting when it twitches.

And here I was expecting an entirely different topic all together.

if you're having too many problems with signs you can always try a fence, foxes can't break those...

If they can't break fence they will also not be able to break signs. So using signs works just fine.
Hope you have a great day

click punch while ur in a boat, drive away and lose agro come back, and build signs around it , get in your boat again and shoot it

same thing with boars but Pre make the signs first with 1 opening , and use ur boat as a shield to make the last one

Bzzt. Please quit posting incorrect information. Foxes break signposts. They shouldn't be breaking an actual fence, though. Aurochsen and mouflon will not break signposts.
