How do I maintain safety without a key alt?

Postby PeanutJack » Sun Jan 29, 2012 6:03 pm

After perusing the forums for a few days, it seems all the guides for newbies suggest that you NEVER EVER keep the key on your main character. I see that this is because if you die, you'll have no key to the gate. The solution presented is to keep an alternate character that's only purpose is to open/close the gate. However, there are a few problems I have with this:
1. My computer can't handle having two clients open, even if one is just idling by the gate.
2. If I were to avoid this by only using one client, the gate could potentially be open for an entire minute with me switching characters to open/close it, which poses too great a risk for the frequency with which I tend to leave my little area.

Could anyone offer a safe way to be able to enter/leave my little area frequently without the use of a key alt?

get a village claim, put crossroad outside and one inside, have the inside one lead to the outside one, port to your idol or fire inside.

If I have to do that, I guess that's what I have to do. Thanks, now to save up 50k LP to get Lawspeaking and then to build a village claim x.x
Starting to think maybe I'd be better off looking for a village to join instead of hermitting all alone.

I use the barrack system. My palisade is double walled. That way I can open the inner gate to allow people in and out, without compromising the outer gate. Also one character holds the inner key and she never ever leaves the palisade. Hope that helps.

Well that still leaves you vulnerable to pali-bashers.

Make 2 gates with a litle hall between. Have 2 alts, one for the inside gate, one for the outside. Your camp wont be accessable while switching.
Hope you have a great day

The one problem with the "crossroads" solution is that they now take a good chunk of steel and hard metal and you need two xroads for it to work.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Got my own little Barrack or Hall system. But with a little block-hut in it ... seemed to make sense. Nice as temporary storage and fast jump-in and -out hole (just in case).

(Initially Intended as wagon parking space, but that's probably not going to happen any time soon.)
