a stolen village idol

I have been playing for a while now as a hermit, well someone broke in and collected scents inside my village of me and my son shooting eachother to test stuff out since we both just got rage.
To make a long story short they claimed my village idol after killing me and of course picked through everything they wanted. say la vie, oh well, all fair in the game mechanics.
heres my question: its been about 5 days (real time) and his claim to my village still stands strong, does he have to earn LP inside the village to gain authority?
or can he gain authority on my village from wherever he is effectively keeping my village forever?

He can continue to gain LP on a character who is a member of the village no matter where that character is located in the world. Your best bet would be just to pack up and move somewhere new.

LP gain can be anywhere. I don't want to say so but there's not much of a chance you will get back your idol. My sincerest apologies.

How does one steal a village idol?

How does one steal a village idol?

* join a village
* buy lawspeaking
* kill the lawspeaker, or arrange an "unfortunate accident" resulting in his death, or persuade him to right click the idol and Renounce Lawspeaker
* right click the idol and take over as lawspeaker

Also, I've heard you can skip step 1 if every village member is dead, but I haven't tested it.
