Cooking kinda makes sense although that always depends on what you expect from that alt. Cooking needs perception so when you have a foraging alt you might as well make that one your cook. Crossing your farmer with your forager however might not be such a good idea since you might loose the forager, because he is outside a lot.

Sewing? Need someone to sew and don't want to risk loosing that ability on your main? Then make a sewing alt or incorporate it into the farming alt. That is really all up to you. Of course it is best to have as many different characters for jobs as you can handle, but as a hermit that might be overkill. In a town however you can share characters and help eachother building them up.

So a pure farming alt really needs just that: Farming. But combine them as you think it is best.

Dexterity is very good because it's used with sewing and pottery so I recommend a high DEX. Cooking, farming and sewing all go well together, because from farms you get straw and you use it for sewing etc.
Get him clothes that give skill values to farming (straw hat)
And choose nature in personal beliefs.

That is another option I personally always used too. Others might say it is not very smart to combine your explorer and your main, but I preferred to go out to hunt and forage in one and also be capable of defending myself. Even though the losses are much greater of course in case you ever get caught on a trip by a superior force (which in my case was a river).

The real smart play is to make a cheap forager, have some crafting toon (or several crafting toons) that you keep tightly locked away and have your "main" to be the combat character you only bring out in times of danger.

I'm considering the explorer alt. My Jack of all trades, main and only character was killed. The loss was so huge for me.
Now I'm thinking what an explorer alt need. per and exp as high as I can, survival not higher than the soil quality, and 40 MM as he already has a high PER.
The home alt(main?) should have farming, cooking, dex, sewing, carpentry, str, psy, smithing (people said nature belief is ok for smithing), maybe survival (for high quality bear hide).
A miner alt needs only str.
A plain white alt for carrying logs, clay and water.
No plan for combat alt yet.
I played only two months. And want to hear better plans from more experienced players.

The plan is pretty good so far (note that it is pretty easy to make a smith from your miner too, just by having a shewbread or whatever on it at all times. Jeweler is another issue though). The best advice I can give however is to work on such things in a team as that is far more effiecient as long as you have decen tpeople around you. Running such a large number of chars all by yourself and getting all the supplies they need can be quite exhausting.

Great except the smithing part. If your home/main character does not plan on discovering metals, it is probably best to raise smithing on your miner who will discover the metals.

The problem is that a miner is a high risk character so one should think twice wether to raise smithing on him or on another toon.
