Terrain Takeover?

Can someone tell me what this is? This used to be all grassland. It started with an extremely small amount being that kind of terrain, and after a couple months-ish it turned into this. I was thinking about the guy with his "famiry of whores" and his swamp problem.

Is it normal to take over an area like that, though? Because when I first got here, nothing at all. Then the one, then this, yada-yada.

EDIT: I read the link, and only part of the areas it took over were plowed.

Yes. First, grassland spreads over areas where trees have been chopped. Next comes Moor, then Heath. Grass over it using seeds if you wish to do so.

Hi everybody :D

I have a little house in a Conifer Forest and want to have some trees from Broadleaf forest, so to make their speed growth not so slow I stomped to dirt a piece of land (8x8) and started planting grass in alternate tiles (only 4 seeds), hoping grass would take over all the tiles. Well ... grass did take over 1 tile in 2 RL days. :D

Someone knows if this is just good luck or it is what is suppossed to happen in so short time?.
I read that terrains change slowly. I dont like this red stomped dirt, so if it would take long I will search for more seeds.

Thx to whom ever answers me. :D

(Yeah, a waiste of seeds; afterwards I found out that only needed to change the tile where the tree will be planted).-

Seeds are easy to come by once you have a farm up and going. You'll have so many throw away seeds it's not funny. You can just use the opposing tree types to terraform one forest type into the other without growing grass first. It's just hard to tell when it occurs as the only difference visually between the two (other than the trees found) is on the minimap.
