hide/xray?

I was reading sevenless' guide, and some terms confused me.
He said if you should use an alt with hide/xray vision to hold the key and open the gate. What hide/xray is, and how to use it?

Hide/xray helps so that you can see objects that are hidden behind buildings, trees, rocks. ect. To use this you must have the Enders client and then hold down Ctrl and X and it will show you xray vision.

X-ray is all well and good but you'd be much better off using ctrl-H. since it doesn't make your eyes bleed, and you can specify what you want hidden

On most custom clients (the standard and recommended custom client being used is Ender's), there are these 2 features as well as a lot more.

CTRL+X toggles Xray mode, which gives objects a white outline and makes them transparent.
CTRL+H toggles Hide mode, which completely hides objects set within the options menu. (In my opinion, this is the better of the 2, and if you use it I strongly advise you also make sure "Show Hidden" is toggled on to give a red square in place of the object so you have a feeling of it's hitbox)
