Hermit trying to trade.

Postby Vihart » Mon Feb 20, 2012 2:34 pm

Im a hermit and i try to avoid contact with most hearthlings, i recently read "apples for oranges" and became aware of the advantages of trade.

How do i make contact with a village without getting gutted like a fish ?
I imagine that villages have little time or patience for hermits wishing to trade them blueberries and other things, and would rather kill them.

Do any of you guys have any advice, precautions, wisdom for a hermit who wishes to trade with others (especially villages)?

Please dont tell me that i should join a village, make my own village and add an idol, i wish to stay as a hermit for now.

well you can trade with villages near you, talk to them nicely, dont annoy them, and lower the values(1 pearl is 50 with idol, without lets make it 30-40.)

I know you don't want to add an idol for that sense of "being a village", but the 2 major benefits outweigh that. Consider trading via idols, and crossroads usage, both VERY handy.

As for actual trading, it should be done via idol hopping almost always, and as long as you choose a reputable trader they should be too concerned about keeping a good reputation than whether or not they can just take your goods from you.

For a large part of W5 I was a hermit with an idol, and I cannot state enough how much I benefited from it.

My advice: Reconsider building an idol.

i second apocs message. Unless you are alreayd engaging with villages and settlements close to you, so you know theyre friendly, the only other safest option is through idol hopping.

What you could do, is create a newly spawned alt and approach people close to you. if they do end up killing you at elast youre not losing your main chrachter. I would prefer to trade with people around me, and have done so many times.

Thirding those above me. You can create a village all by yourself and benefit from the idol. It's too useful to not have it.

I fourth this, but also a BW around the village idol is a must also. If you do not have this then griefers get instant access to your village. Also a trading alt, you don't want to travel to someone elses village and get guted.
