stone ax VS. pick ax

Postby joojoo1975 » Wed Feb 22, 2012 8:26 pm

greets.

i've looked in the wiki and i dont see data for stone ax(except the 100 base) so i'm tryin to figure out what q does each have to be to be rather equal for mining?

stone axe's are terrible at mining, i only use them when im grinding feps

im completely pulling this statistic out of my ass but i think a 20QL pickaxe is better then a 60QL stone axe

Sometimes you just have to try both in an area you want to mine. Depending on your levels (strength and such) a high quality stoneaxe may allow you to mine in an area that a low quality pickaxe will not.

From what I understand they're the same when determining whether you can mine an area. The difference being that Pickaxes mine twice (I think?) as fast as Stone axes. Which is faster is dependent on how much you're overcoming the hardness by.

I'm not sure. I do know that my miner could not mine at all with the q12 pickaxe (was giving him the messages), but he has been able to mine the area fully with a q60+ stoneaxe.

It's a simple formula: Mining Ability = sqrt(str*tool quality)
The speed of your mining attempts is based on how much you've overcome the hardness by with your mining ability and what tool you're using.

JinxDevona hit the nail on the head: it's all about quality. You can get a q80 stone axe much faster than a q80 pick axe.

As far as which is better and when? There's a ratio if anyone wants to bother computing it. A stone axe takes longer but the stamina drain is less. However, the drain isn't the inverse of the time difference so that if you have a high enough quality stone axe, you may very well be better off than using a crappy quality pick axe. The ratio depends a bit on rock hardness, too. A really hard rock you can barely mine with the pick axe or easily mine with the stone axe will probably go in favor of the stone axe. I had a rough estimate at one time, but that's lost and I really don't care to recalculate it again.
