tree growth time

Postby ThunderStorm » Thu Feb 23, 2012 5:16 am

On Wiki, it does not tell how long it takes different trees to grow.
I'm wondering if anyone know this and can tell me please?

Nope. Nobody has bothered to track growth times. Feel free to do so and post your findings.

this is not an exact measure, but to give an idea...

fir tree appear to be full grown at about 7 days
pine trees, birch seen to be 2 weeks,
mulberry may be 2.5 weeks

note that if you pull a branch/seed/etc from the tree before full grown, it will extend the growing time.

also each square has to be randomly 'hit' but the 'grow one phase' generator, so these times cannot be exact and some stubborn trees can take an extra week to grow.

hopes this helps a little,

oh goddamit. you tracked that data on the dark forest type(the one that has only 2 native tree types) and you are horrifying amounts of misinformed.

cause if you did it on the other forest type youd have directly opposite effects (birch, etc taking 7 days while fir takes 2 weeks)

pulling branches ect will NOT slow down growth time.
and then there is the whole ONLY the very last stage of growth happens at random thing, could be 6 hours or it could be 2 months or even outlast us all.

Yup. Had a mulberry tree one time take over 3 months to mature. Always hated cutting those down before full maturity because I wanted the whole log instead of blocks.

Will second everything else kralmir said. AP is usually right on with this information, but he missed this one.

Up to the last stage its pretty fast, i would say a week, or a little more for the fastest growing trees if they are planted on their original terrain. A funny thing is that in this game the better quality is the wood the faster the tree is growing, when in real life its exactly the opposite better wood is given by slowest raising trees since they give more compressed grain wood which is more dense and better.

But the last stage is totally random, i have commonly trees grow the last stage after the 3d+ generation have reached full growth, so to give you an idea. But as a general rule, its (almost) always quicker to grow 2 trees in a raw at the forth stage and cut them to get 2 logs, than waiting for the first tree to be at last stage and give you 2 logs. You'll also raise their quality a lot faster like this since the seed at the 4th stage is the same quality as the seed from the 5th stage.

If trees aren't on their original terrain it is a lot longer, maybe twice or triple the time. Use fir for heavy forest terrain, and birch for the light forest, those are the fastest growing trees. They will give you more wood that the slow growing ones even though they give less wood went cut, because they really grow a lot faster. If you do want to grow tree that are not in their original terrain try to pack them and replant them at the same place you cut them since they will turn the terrain around them to their own, so after few gen they'll have their own terrain and grow at full speed.

Taking leaves or other items doesn't extend growth time, but it can cause your tree to stunt if it isn't in the final growth stage and you're standing there when it's time for the tree to grow again.
