I don't think anyone fully understands how wax quality works. From what i gather though, the quality gets permanently lowered in the beehive if it goes extended times without anything growing in it's radius. The quality on the wax also seems to be capped by the quality of the honey in the beehive from what i can tell. Also, no matter what quality your crops are, the wax has to work it's way up to it's max quality over a few growth stages.

I'm not 100% sure on some of that, but hopefully it gives you some ideas. Maybe someone who knows more about it can come in and correct me, as i'm curious about wax quality myself ;)

Do the crops growing near the hive have to be sprouting In other words, if the full hive radius is filled with plants but the plants are mature, will the hive continue to produce honey and/or wax?

it's this issue of people mistaking convenience for laziness or "casual" gameplay, . . . there is no reason why not to have sacks . . .

Candleberry wax is the avarage of all 5 candleberries (which I use for higher quality stuff  ).
Hope you have a great day

Sprouting. Fully grown crops will not develop further honey or wax.

Just replant you fields and gather your wax regularly as it is made by the bees and it will go up, and you need to replant and not wait too much. Few days without gathering/replanting and you'll see the quality go down.

You don't even need a few days. If you wait that long, the quality will invariably drop by at least half, and if you're already under q30 or so, it will be back at q10. Just being a few hours too long can mean your wax and honey drop 5 points or more.

See the thing is though, that doesn't always work. Using my own beehive as an example

The wax was always harvested when it was ready to be harvested,
and general crops were planted around it and harvested regularly.

For what do you need high quality wax anyway except for a coiled rope hotpad? :D
Hope you have a great day
