I finished writing it up on the wiki yesterday, so I thought I'd "export" it to the forums for extra exposure, to be extra useful.

Good. Maybe you should warn that when you're waiting for the beast to re-engage combat, you should be standing close to him, so not in shallow water or boat.

Is that so? I thought the path finding was against engaging people in shallows... I always had to run circles around the boar to get him to re-engage.

The boar will follow you around, and, from my experience, will re-engage faster if you're leading it around land (usually under 2-3 minutes) as boars are naturally aggressive. If I've stayed in water, it's taken longer, about what mouflon and aurochsen take.
