Scrolling to sort by quality

I've read in a few places something about holding ctrl and using my scroll wheel to sort stuff by quality in a container. How exactly is this done? I can't seem to make it work. Thanks for the help.

Control and shift then roll the wheel while the cursor is over the target container to add items by quality highest to lowest. Control, shift and alt to do it lowest first.

It's Ctrl + Alt only.
