New Player

Hey guys,

I'm new here. I'm on my second character because the first one died. I've learned to make a few different things. I'm basically lost. I see other peoples' hearth fires, and see Vault 101, but don't see any players online. Also, I really don't know what to do beyond building what I can. My character can't kill animals with his stone axe or cut down trees, so I'm not sure how to progress beyond the very basics.

It seems like a cool game that I'm eager to get into. Thanks guys.

Hey, I'm new too!

What can you build? Just to know... I'm on my 3rd player now, the first one was killed, second one spwned in a very small island with no food, nor rabbits/hens

Read the posts stickied at the top of this forum. It appears you have the basics down, so you can probably skip the "Welcome to HnH" thread (though there's a few useful tidbits in there that are easy to overlook, so it never hurts to reread it). I'd suggest next reading Sevenless' Guide for Beginning Players. Sevenless gives a basic walk through of what to do in the first several days of game play and what some of the various options are.

@ kstor1234 - Just some very basic things. I don't know where I am only that I've spawned twice near Vault 101. I don't see anyone else online around me, even though there's hearth fires everywhere.

Have no idea where I spawned either, but I'll make a new player now that I understand a lot more how the engine works

Don't make your settlement on a river. Also find some resources to take control of in your area.

I caught some brill today. I found that it can be butchered, but not cooked. Why can't we cook it, we're eating raw fish

butcher it then make a fire and rightclick the fire to make sure your character is using it. have to rightclick the fire so your char moves up to it and can use it.

then just use the roast meat command.

I've never seen any "roast meat" command. Also, I've cooked other foods, so I know how it's done. Other foods I can make that require cooking won't let me eat them without cooking and are also under the "cooking" menu. After catching and butchering the fish, they don't appear in the cooking menu.

How come whenever I play I never see anyone else online? I see cabins and hearth fires, but no people.
