Question for hermits with alts

Postby Sangi » Wed Mar 14, 2012 3:47 pm

How do you break out your skill distribution among your working alts? Not the key holders and loot mules. It seems like its best to break jobs out according to stats and incremental skills rather than a specific skill path. As far as I can tell from reading the forums and the wiki it breaks down as follows:

Forager - foraging, exploration and perception skills
Hunter/Soldier - UA, MM and Melee
Farmer/Potter/Sewer/Leatherworker
Cook
Miner

Heres a little background to the question. Please skip if it's too long. I'm a noob being a hermit and trying to plan out my advancement. I fully expect to be wiped off the map with in the first month, but if I'm not it would be nice to at least proceed in a semi right direction. Thanks to a chance encounter with some leeches, no shoes, and crazy ants my initial character dropped to 6 HHP. So to keep that guy alive while I try and get some sheep I rolled an alt to forage with. Then died due to a bad boar incident. So I rerolled her. She's turning out to be a descent forager. I expect to take her down that path. My first toon is now taking the path of the farmer/dex/sewing/leather working. I am wondering if it is worth while to bring him down the baking path as well. I would think not due to having to split stats among perc and cooking. But as most of my curiosities are foraged, is it worth while to split them among several separate toons?

Edited for speeling

if i were u, you might wanna combine your forager with your UA guy.

but in all seriousness. most peeps have an alt for avery damn skill. they have a carpentry alt, a cooking alt, a mining alt, a sewing alt, a fighter alt(who am i kidding, Tons of fighter alts) etc etc etc.

if you want to make the mose of the current system weaknesses, then get an alt for every skill and then work on that alt's attributes for said skill.

when i hermitted i had 2 alts, which i still do now in a town.

1 main charachter, who i focus on full nature and is crafter/farmer/cook/sewer- i also include carp/smithing/ua/mm/mellee etc once its an established charachter

second is my alt, generally to forage/hunt/mine and is full industry- i also focus mm/ua/melee on this charachter, but jsut work on con/perc/strength and agility

with my main i balance all my stats.

i cant handle a million alts for every skill ingame, but some people enjoy it!

I have a main for combat who also happens to be cook by some strange happenstance. A crafter who does smithing/sewing and carpenty and a farmer. Not gonna count my basher because DAMMIT it's frikken hard to get there.

I don't like spreading my skills across alts that much, since it takes my computer a considerable amount of time to change characters. So, even though I only have 14000 LP at the moment, my guy will eventually have good farming+carpentry+survival for my tree farm I'm planning on making soon and for butchering, while my single alt (named Bait coincidentally) will have exploration and fighting skills.

I do pretty much the same as Eemerald
My main is well balanced stat wise and is able to do all jobs without ruining anything.

1st alt forages, hunts, farms - is full nature - also can cook.
2nd is full industry and mines but also has good enough relevent stats to forage and hunt

All three have high mm, cos its useful when out and about and all three high carpentry so i don't have to keep changing chars whenever i want to build something or make fuel.

here's what i did back when i played:

1st char: 100 perception (after this FEP is irrelevant for this char), 100 explore, 60-70ish MM, and 40-50ish survival. then full tradition, once finished, start another character identical to this build
2nd char: farming, cooking, dex, psy, nature, sewing, carpentry and so forth. this character doesn't go outside ever, gets top notch armor, doesn't log in whatsoever if home appears to be compromised or a "hot zone"
3rd char: industry, combat skill, eats the majority of food.

and of course a shit load of scouter alts and "garbage men" to do shit like chopping wood, digging clay, etc
