Building a fence

Hey, im trying to build a roundpoll fence in an open area, but when I go to do so, it always says that I can't build there. What am I doing wrong?

Same thing happens when trying to build a log cabin, and im not on someones turf either

you have to build fence on grass (i think grass works anyway) or paved tiles

cabins only on paved

You can build on heath and mudflats too.

cabins can be built on grass.
