Newbie Questions!

Postby kthxbi » Fri Oct 09, 2009 4:47 am

Hi, I'm new to the game, ( about one week ) and my girlfriend and I have gotten ourselves a little patch of land with a nice farm on it. We staked a claim and started building our resources, (Kiln, Oven, Etc) but I've got a few questions that I'd like some clarification on!

Is there a way to domesticate animals, such as the cow, or chicken? Since their products are needed so much in average recipes and they are, on top of that, extremely hard to find, is there a way to domesticate or "own" some of these animals?

Some recipes call for more then what I can fit in my inventory! The food "Ring of Brodgar" has been puzzling us as it requires 5 buckets of water and a bucket of honey (more then we can fit in our inventory even with backpacks.)

Where can I get metal? Its come to a point where further advancement of my farm would require me to start mining. Is there a certain place where people go to mine... or is there any possible way for me to trade some of my farm goods, ( they arnt very high quality ) for some metals to get me started?

Thanks in advance for clarifying!
kthxbi

Animal domestication should be coming sometime soon.

You don't actually require THAT much water. Liquids use different measuring amounts. So while a bucket says it holds 1, it really holds more like 100 when comparing it to the numbers found in recipes.

You'll need to trade for metal. It's basically impossible to farm and mine with the same character, on top of that mines are very rare and any mine you'll be able to reach is already taken.

no. not yet anyway. but it is planned for the future.

for some reason it displays 5 L when it means 0.5 L.

a lot of people will trade metal for linen cloth and baked goods. linen cloth is probably your best bet right now because quality doesn't matter. people just want a lot of them for village banners.

There will be, eventually...

There's a decimal point, so it's 0.5 liters of water and 0.1 liters of honey.

All mines in civilized areas seem to be claimed, so the remaining mines are all in dangerous areas with hostile animals. I would recommend trading some of your baked goods for some metal. Brodgar village (North of the Ring of Brodgar) might be willing to trade, and you can also post a trade request on the appropriate section of the forum.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

A ranger is someone, who tracks down criminals and punishes them.
A hirdsman is a ranger who is appointed to be a hirdsman by a chieftain.

there is none! Actually I think you don't even need special skills to be a hirdsman. But hey are seen as some kind of village police, so they should be rangers.

AND you cand only wear the hirdsman stuff if you are a hirdsman.

So the only difference between the ranger cloak (which is Green) and the Hirdsman cloak (which is black) is color? then why does it take more complex materials to make the ranger cloak?

hirdsmen do not require any stats or skills, they are appointed by the chieftain, and are the only people that can wear the hirdsmen helmet or cape. the helmet is quite good armor, i don't know about the cape.

the ranger gear, including the boots, pants, shirt, and cloak all give various stat and skill bonuses. you need the ranging skill to make them, iirc, but i think anyone can wear them. the ranger's bow also does more base damage than the regular bow.
