information on crucibles

Postby LadyV » Sat Mar 24, 2012 2:37 pm

I've had some conflicting information on crucibles, steel crucibles, and finery forges. Some say their q affects outcome. Other say no it doesn't. Could someone clarify this for me?

alloying crucibles: quality doesn't matter

finery forges: the bloom(/slag) is softcapped by (fineryforgeQ+fuelQ)/2, where fineryforgeQ=(brickQ+barQ)/2 where brickQ and barQ are the average qualities of the materials used to make the finery forge.

p.s. this means that finery forges never raise q, just make sure that the coal you use in them is high enough to not softcap the bloom.

steel crucibles:

(coal q + crucible q + fuel q) / 3

If that value is equal or higher than your wrought iron in the crucible you're good to go. If it's lower the steel will be softcapped.

A little warning: I may have gotten the formula wrong but I doubt it.

Yeah, that is the number that will determine if your steel q is lower than your wrought q or the same.

p.s. i cannot remember whether it is

steelQ=max(wroughtQ, [ wroughtQ + (coalQ + crucibleQ + fuelQ) / 3 ] / 2)

or

steelQ=max(wroughtQ, (wroughtQ + coalQ + crucibleQ + fuelQ )/ 4)

but since you probably don't want to lower your wrought, you should aim for the number Horatius said to be equal to or higher than the wroughtQ, in either case.

edit: wow, posting on my old account by mistake :p
