How do i convince my father...

...to let me download this game, he gets paranoid over games having viruses, slowing down the computer, etc.

Ive considered writing a five paragraph essay to attempt to convince him.

I really want this game, if anyone else has had this problem, can you give me some advice?

Im being serious here, my dad is playing major hardball on this and he wont budge.

Let's just make this topic full with different people and such so that he knows HnH is unharmful to your pc.
Let me begin: I've started playing Haven and Hearth somewhere in the beginning of 2010, I still play it and I have yet to discover any minor problem it causes to slow down or crash my PC. I've never ever had some trouble with it. Not even with the costum clients for the game. Be sure to only download Ender as a costum client though, because others could indeed contain a virus if anybody wants to troll you.
So, if you only download the main client and/or ender's client there won't be ANY infraction to your PC. I can assure you that.

Now if Jorb or Loftar can help you with this, you can email them for sure. They'll help you out

Tell him he's beeing paranoid. Programs that don't run can't slow computer, only self starting part would be java if you don't have it yet but then you can easily set it to not run automatically. As for viruses he can specifically scan the files before unpacking/running them (assuming you've not got an av program that would do it on it's own).

If he is worried that it contains a virus because he doesn't understand that independent things on the internet are often fine

(a) run a virus scan?
(b) inform him that J&L are also making Salem~ http://www.paradoxplaza.com/games/salem, a commercial game now, and they never would have got the money to do that if H&H contained malware.

You may also want to download enders client eventually, but you can direct him to the enders thread and invite him to search it for mentions of viruses...

Ive downloaded clients made by OTHER PLAYERS, and still havent got a virus from this game

It's difficult to say since we do not know your dad and what it will take you convince him that it is safe. If it would help at all he can maybe explain his concerns to a moderator or somesuch and they can do their best to alleviate his worries? Failing that, it's hard to say. We are but strangers on the internet so our words are not nearly as strong as yours. =)
