Dangerous Spot for Home?

Postby shootuinhead » Sun Apr 01, 2012 2:03 am

Hello, my name is Daniel (in game and IRL) and, wanting to just try the game out at first, without using any guides, I built my first house directly on a river. Reading through the forums, and experiencing/using them firsthand, I see now that rivers are essentially the highways of the game (for now), and considered moving to a different place far away from my current location, away from (but not impractical in terms of accessing) rivers and lakes. Is my current home too dangerous to remain at, or with palisades would it be safe enough to stay? I decided to ask before investing in such a long move. Note that the area (a 42x42 space) is claimed, if that makes any difference, and the palisades are started (actually, setting atm).

Note: if a topic similar to this has already been made, my apologies. I looked through most relevant search options, and couldn't find anything similar to my question.

Thanks for any replies :D

first off, Bad idea. these guides are the difference between a game you may love forever or you ragequitting in the first week.

with that said, no place is safe unless you have a brickwall(and even then it's not safe from the peeps who will exploit.)

your right by the river? consider the river as Griefer highway. and this late into the world, damn near everybody has a palibasher. so your palisade is useless.

my advice. Move away. find a plot of land where you can minimize your mini map(if useing ender's) and not see any lakes or rivers.

otherwise your just asking to be pillaged and killed.

Alright, thank you. I started using Sevenless' guide a couple days in, just after I built my timber house. That's where I got the tip to stay away from rivers and such. I have been looking for a while to find a plot that isn't forest but also doesn't have any forms of players or water nearby for a while, now that I've started using Enders I should be able to find one more easily with the world map (assuming it's fairly well updated). Sounds like I should start the moving process ASAP once I find a good spot, and also like I shouldn't be too upset if I log in one day to find my entire area demolished, and like I should continue bed-logging the moment any player comes on screen. Are there any ways to set up the brickwall to prevent players using exploits?
Thanks again for the tips.

if i were you i would pack up and begin boating around till you find what you need. it wont be an easy trek, in this world you can't go 5 minutes without seeing player evidence. but it is possible. If you dont want to start over again, you could also put up in the "dwarves and thieves" section telling them your a new player looking for a village that's willing to teach new peeps. remember to think about your village app as like a job interview and application.

and also like I shouldn't be too upset if I log in one day to find my entire area demolished
if you get upset about that, might i sugest you quit now while you're not addicted. this game is a Haven for assholes, Griefers, and everything else vile. or to put it another way. H&H is the "4chan" of MMO's. Have a Very thick skin.

and like I should continue bed-logging the moment any player comes on screen. Are there any ways to set up the brickwall to prevent players using exploits?

With ender's you can auto hearth if "known-hostiles" come into view(you have to set color tags, via the kinlist menu thingy) or u can set it to auto hearth if any player comes into view. at this time the exploits and cheats in this game are not being dealt with. the 2 sole devs for this game are working on Salem and have to spend all thier time on that, atm. but we all hope that once salem is done that H&H will get revamped/fixed.

Alright. I think I'll do so, might start building coffers so I can just mass move as much as possible. Thanks again for the help. Hopefully I can get everything loaded before I get completely cleaned out :P
