Starting A Small High-QL Tree Farm

Postby Kamakazii » Tue Apr 10, 2012 1:41 am

I have made a SMALL area for growing trees, but i dont want to space them out hugely.
I planned another spot for the main trees. I would like to know how efficient i could build tree spots with getting as many trees in the area as possible (fir trees).
Please note = A BWall is on the right side, 4 spaces away. And a stone mansion on the left side 3 spaces away.
Thanks ;)

PIC (If someone could draw a plan and load it here i would be greatful :D )

Depends on the tree. You can pack mulberry trees a bit closer together than the others, but only by about half a tile or so. You'll want 3 tiles between plantings for fir, birch, or elm. I've not tried out how close you can get apple trees.

Code: Select all
xxxxxxxxxxx
xTxxxTxxxTx
xxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxx
xxxTxxxTxxx

Trees grow very slowly when they're not on native soil, so it's unfortunate that you'll be planting them on grass :(

Just a question... if you plant firs like that, doesn't 1 of the logs of the left tree get stuck on the right tree? Because from the tests I ran, there are usually 2 empty tiles then 1 tile with a log and another with another log. But in that case, the second log would be in the same square as the other tree. (Again, I am just asking, I don't really know much about this yet).

Wouldn't the tiles change to the right biome after a couple tree growths and prevent that problem in the future?

Sorry for asking these questions on your thread, but I also want to learn good ways to space trees in a farm.

I do mine like that. Though as Phaen said, the place you will plant your trees is not the best place to do it - find some other spots in your village with forest terrain.

Here is the most space efficient layout that's around which I know of (courtesy of Patchouli Knowledge):
