Can you build a house on top of a tree sprout?

Postby Agasi » Sat Apr 21, 2012 8:48 pm

Since I remember building something on top of a planted crop,
I wonder if you could do the same thing with trees.
I'm doing this for aesthetic purposes as i like to plan my settlements around nature instead of ignoring it.
I was thinking that a tree could grow through a building if I quickly pave the ground it was planted on and get the building sign for whatever structure on top of it.

I guess that someone could build a building over a plot of pumpkins, flax or poppy to identify the building somewhat making it more unique.
or hide something using the hide function in enders.
like a single hidden poppy flower.

sorry if this was a secret or something

It will not be possible since full growth tree and houses are mutually exclusive within the building square:
  • Trees need 5x5 room to grow. While it is possible for you to pave the soil under the tree and build the house, if anything with a hit box is within its range when its growth stage occurs (such as a house on top of it, even a building sign), its growth will be permanently stunted so it will remain a sprout forever thus not be visible at all and nullifying the purpose of the decoration.
  • Conversely, you need to be able to pave the square to be able to be build and the house needs open space to be built in.

The reason why it is possible for houses to be able to be build on top of crops is because crops do not have hit boxes. You just plant the crops at the location where you want to decorate the house, pave on the tiles of the crop, and build the house.

I thought it would just be stunted instead of permanently stunted.
Would be bad for the tree anyway, thanks.
