Can I Sail With My Kin's Boat If I Didn't Make It Myself?

Hello everyone. I'm here to ask if I can use a boat that my kin has made. My friend and I have been playing together for a while and he's thinking about getting Boat Building so we can travel to new islands. I've been focusing on Exploration so we can get herbs, so I don't want to spend my LP on Boat Building. Can I use his boat to get across water or will it not let me use it? I know you can't use A Beautiful Dream! in a recipe if you didn't harvest it yourself. Same goes for Boards and other things.
