I've been muddling along for a few weeks, got most of my stats up in the 26-31 range, and I've built myself a nice palisaded compound with a full array of crops and a decent farming skill (42 or so) and cooking (around 30). I'm also capable of sling-hunting boars and bears now from a boat, and my per*exp for finding foragables is currently 1550. However I'm still a hermit, and while there is a well established village nearby who has been giving me a hand now and then, I don't have much to offer them in trade at the moment.
So, how does one go about building up a supply of various stat-building foods and designing a diet so that one stat doesn't get too far ahead of everything else and ruin the FEP balance? Perhaps we can even build up a guide on the subject for budding nooblets?

Discuss!

The first objective is finding out where your intention is with developing your character, what role you will fill. As a hermit, you need to make the decision on whether or not to split up the 2 aspects of the game (combat oriented character and crafting/farming oriented character) onto multiple alts, or if a single all-around jack-of-all-trades type character suits you better.
After that choice you can start to allocate which stats are needed by which character based on their role (if you're doing everything on a single character, keeping the idea of balancing foods in mind).
What all characters need: Intelligence and Perception
Why? Intelligence for curiosities, perception is needed to forage, track, use ranged combat effectively and it can softcap cooking.
Combat characters need Strength, Agility, and Constituion
Why? Strength -> Damage, Agility -> Decreases cooldowns in combat (+less travel weariness fast travelling), Constitution -> Health! (Also swimming)
Crafter characters need Dexterity and possibly Psyche
Why? Dexterity deals with a lot of the softcaps when crafting, and psyche is crucial in silk production
Optional for all roles: Charisma
For everyone: More authority gain with curiosities, and affects the bonuses of a lit bonfire (the charisma of the person who lights it that is)
In combat: Certain moves use the charisma of the party leader to determine bonuses
Now for actual foods:
Phaen made a great post on the topic of how to use food more wisely here:
