Reverting from grassland to forest

Postby Sleep » Fri May 04, 2012 3:02 pm

So, me and my friend have moved to an abandoned habitat and have noticed a ton of grassland grass, my friend told me that if you plant normal forestry trees and then plow the grass, the forest terrain will come back.
Is this true?
If not is there anyway to revert to forest terrain?

Just planting the trees of the type of terrain you wish to change suffice. No plowing is needed. However you will have issues wit the fact that the trees will grow much slower on grass than on their native terrain. I suggest that once you have a forest ground that you desire that you use that to plant new trees.

Also note that forest ground will change to grassland if there is no trees with 10 tiles.

Doesn't using soil from forest will speedup this terraforming process ?!?

That is very great to hear.
Full grown trees or even saplings?

It would probably take longer to reforest one of the naturally occuring grassland patches (of average size) than it would to pave a 4 tile wide road from absolute north to absolute south.

Plant lots of trees, basically.

To be honest, I am not entirely sure if slowing the growth rate of the tree would actually prolong the terraforming period or ends up slowing the process down but I do know that the tree terraform as it grows.

@Sleep

It would be great if you'd post your experiences with that - this point is missing in Wiki ...

I will try some experiments and post the info into wiki discussion on the page, then someone with beautiful grammar can explain it.

I have been experimenting with that too... Also, are all trees better at forest biome? I have been trying to experiment with that, but haven't gotten results yet.

3 log trees grow slower than 2 log trees. Afaik deciduous and coniferous trees grow at the same speed on grass, but will of course produce different forest tiles (although they look the same).

If you made a forest of oak, that would look really pretty.
