Inheritance VS Death?

Postby MilouX » Sat May 12, 2012 1:30 am

So, first of all hello to all, this is my first post :D !

I started playing H&H some days ago, and I already got 2 of my chars killed  . I read at the wiki that when you inherit a deceased char (by reading his runestone) you can reborn with the same name but you loose LP, attributes, etc ... My question: do I inherit my dead hearthling or do I start a new one? Would reborning give me a disadvantage in comparison to non-descendant characters?

Also, if I start a new one can't I use the same name as the previous one?

Thanks in advance for any helpful answer!

Hello, MilouX, and welcome... : ^)

When you inherit, you have to choose a new name. You can never have 2 characters with the same name (at least on the same account).

About whether you should inherit or not, it depends on a few things. You will recover part of the LP and attributes you had when you died (the percentage depends on your traditional/change slider). However, you won't be able to gain LP from discoveries. If you had just started and most of the LP you gained was from discoveries, not studies, it might be a good idea to start anew.

The downside of starting a new character is that you will have to discover everything again, which has the downside that, for instance, if you want to make say a bone saw, you will have to discover bones again, you can't just pick up a bone someone gave you, for instance. Another downside is that you will start in a completely random location, whereas if you inherit, you will start where your deceased character's hearth fire was. So, if you had already a house or some sort of shelter, it might be interesting to inherit.

Once you play for a while, it is usually more beneficial to inherit, but I hope it will be easier for you to make a decision with the information above... : ^)

Thanks for the information!

As I just started playing, I'll just make a new character . Also, your post finally explains why I couldn't make a bone saw  . Thanks again for the help!

If you've built a house ect. you can also inherit, then start a new character with the hearth secret of your inherited character (don't forget to clear the hearth secret after)
