Question about cattle feed

Postby Arcanist » Sun May 13, 2012 7:20 am

Okay, so a tile counts as 1 food unit. Is this per day, or 1 unit total forever?

I have 3 bulls in a 6x6 pen, if it's 1 unit per day then this would mean that I don't have to feed them, but if it's 1 unit total I will have to feed them.

Also does it matter if I feed bulls low quality fodder, or will this lower their quality?

if your having them eat off the ground, i Believe that's like Q10 or whatever the Dirt Q is. 99% of peeps put in a food trough and feed livestock beet leaves and beets, as they grow super fast, and they fill up them food troughs rather quickly.

i dunno bout the bull question

Per feeding session. This is multiple times per day. Grass is lower than q10 and will drop the quality of your cattle over time and will kill them over time. This is especially true for pregnant females -- they are going to starve to death.

Low quality fodder will lower the quality of your cattle if the fodder is a lower quality than your cattle.

Okay, so basically cattle eating grass is bad for them? Should I pave over it?

As long as there is a trough, they will eat the trough. They will only eat the grass if there is no food on the trough. It's still better for them to eat grass than to starve. Once they eat grass, the grass turns into dirt, and I don't know if that recovers alone over time or if you need to plant grass.

It recovers on its own over time but it takes a lot of time.

So just out of interest, how big would the pen have to be for me to never have to feed one bull, without it dying?

I don't think it's possible to know, since the recovery of the grass is random, much like plowed ground going back to unplowed, decay hits, etc. But I would have to guess it would be a pretty large area (at least 10x10 for a single bull... quite possibly much more).
