a few mining questions

hey i just started mining and found a nice tin vain buy i only found cause somone else had started it a while ago then quit how do i detect vains of ores otherwise while in a cave? :?:

Chip walls until you no longer hit stone and instead hit ore. Alternatively use rustroot extract to find ore below you.

sounds like that'll take a long time also the cave i 'm talking about runs under a river does prospecting work while your over water?

Rustroot detects in a radius so it'd be fine over water.

also is there any patterns i should be looking out for such as ore nodes being a certain distance from one another?

No, they're randomly placed. Sometimes they'll intersect even.
