So I heard that there once was a thing called Mordor in game. What was it?

In W1 and W2, AFAIK, everyone spawned in the center of a world at the Ring of Brodgar. Territories far from RoB were called Mordor. Decay rates there were much higher and I think animals more dangerous. I played from the middle of W3, and haven't seen this myself. So please correct me if I'm wrong.

You can still see the "more dangerous" animals aspect if you have a large enough village to drive the civilization level up. I've only heard of deer getting lowered in level (seems like someone reported a L4 deer last world), but the idea is higher civ == worse hunting. (Or more newbie friendly hunting if you want to look at it that way.)

The point is that Mordor is mentioned as being a part of the game in quite a few places on the forums, the Wikis and so on and he was wondering what it was. Reading comprehension problems?
