Claiming land?

I know there's a sticky called 'Owning Land', but I've bought Yeomanry and Lawspeaking today to find that I can neither place a claim down nor build an idol via the adventure menu. The buttons just aren't there. Closing the client and restarting it doesn't seem to work. I'm using Ender's client. Do I have to wait a certain period of time before being able to put down a claim?

You most likely haven't discovered all "ingredients" yet.
For the claim to appear in the adventure menu, you need to have discovered branches, bones and dreams (harvested or collected by yourself, not given to you by someone else).
