If you could give me any pointers on creating and/or maintaining a village.

Tips on goverenment, how curios/food/armor and tools should be managed, housing, protection, etc.

Any pointers are appreciated.

Read these: :)
Best form of goverment for a village
How to protect ones village

Depends on which government form you want to use in your village. :)

It's better to share curios in early stages to speed up the process. Make sure everyone has steady LP income. :)
STR foods for miners and smiths (and palibasher :P ), PSY/DEX foods for tailors and crafters, PER foods for hunters, cooks and foragers, INT foods for everyone! etc etc.
Get everyone some armors, even leather armors will do. Not only for protection, but also make them relieved. :D

Scythes for farmers, pickaxes for miners, monocle or spectacles for hunters, foragers. Get a necromancer's cloak / merchant's robe for public use so that your villagers could study more curios at once. ;)

Brickwalls. You need it. :) Build it as soon as possible. :D
Patrol, do it everyday. ;)
Train your soldiers, spar with them. If you think it's time, go hunt some thieves, raiders (or go raid people  ).
Allies. Ally with factions/villages. :)

Correct me if anything wrong.
People are capable of kindness angels can only dream of, yet can commit sins that put demons to shame.
