Find my friend

Hey,
I was wondering how I can find my friend? I died, however, his hearth fire was destroyed. How can I best find him? I explored a quite big area, do you believe that I can find him by just searching?

If his Hearth Fire has been destroyed then he's likely dead. Best way to find him is start a new character, have your friend give you his Hearth Secret, and then from the creation room talk to the guy in the corner and type in your friends Hearth Secret and then hit enter and then just go down those stairs that appear. Best way I'm afraid.

He wasn't online when I was killed. Can you get killed when you are offline?
It says his hearth fire is destroyed or something, you know? When I talked to the guy making a new character, the stairs in the room appeared, but I couldn't enter.
Does this mean he's dead? However, I am looking for the property, since he did have it claimed. But I really can't find it on the world map! It's so huge, and I have almost no memories of
what the area looked like.

I only know that a few minutes to the south-southwest there was one of those stone mountains, and almost the entire land on it was claimed.
And we were next to a river 'corner' that went from up to the left almost in a 90 degrees angle, however I am not sure whether it was a river or a small lake....
And we didn't have any water to the right for a few minutes. Anyway, it's so difficult. I did find my new location... but that doesn't get me anywhere.

Can you get killed when you are offline?

Yes. If your friend left summonable scents then chances are he was tracked, summoned at his HF, and killed for those scents.

If he didn't, then someone discovered him while he was away from keyboard and killed him. Or just as your friend logged out someone aggro'ed him so that his character stays on and then he was killed.

Yes. That means that either he's dead, there is no room at that Hearth Fire, or he has no Hearth Fire. Which can be due to him destroying it himself, someone else destroying it, or an animal such as a Boar, Bear, or anything that can break through something with a Soak value of 25 or lower.

No, I am sure the guy who killed me destroyed his fire. It actually says: This Player has no hearth fire.

Then your friend hasn't logged back on or he logged in the wilderness.
