Taming?

Postby Infraynor » Tue Jul 24, 2012 6:44 am

I'm pretty confused, do I have to attack it first to get the combat advantage shit or do I just go in with 'Quell the Beast' and will it attack me?

Hiya,

here's a rough guide for now, if I have time and can be bothered I'll touch up on it later :3

Taming is quite difficult to begin with. I suggest having at least 30 UA and some armor - Just in case you take a hit.

Taming cows/sheep:

1) Sign post the animals in. You want to make sure ALL animals are sign posted, I find trapping them all indidually is easiest, so that when you agro one of them, they cannot get out and kill you.

a = animals
x = sign posts.
o = remove sign pos.

X A X
X . X
OXXXO

2) Using the move "Call down the thunder" - Which is one of the only ranged combat moves in the game - Stack 17 IP (initiative points)

3) To use the move "quell the beast" you will need to meet the conditions for the move. This is +3 advantage and <1 intensity - IIRC. Now that you have 17 initiative points, you will want to remove a sign post at one of the corners of the boxes you've trapped the animals in ( the "o" in the above diagram - It doesn't matter which side, any will work). Once the post is removed, you are now free to engage it when you feel comfortable. A good move to gain advantage is "Invocation of Skuld" You will need to use this move 3 times on the animal. Good practice is to use the move on the animal - Let the animal make a move against you and then move away and wait for your cool down to finish before using the move again on the animal - Cows have a move that will gain them advantage and because you most likely don't have that much agility, they will be getting 2 moves off for every one of yours.

4) Now that you have + 3 advantage, it's time to meet the intensity requirements. "Sting like a bee" is pefect for this. again, engage the animal from the one of the diagonal spots and use the move on the animal. Sting like a bee has quite a long cool down (more than a few seconds) this means the animal can still make moves on you and raise the intensity before you get a chance to Quell. To counter this, use sting like a bee and move away from the animal and THEN quell the beast. (quell the beast is actually a ranged move, so you don't have to be standing next to the animal to use it).

If you did everything right, you're 1/5 of the way there!

To speed up the taming process, run away from the herd of animals and lose the "Agro" on them. Once you have lost agro (indicated by the portraits in the top right corner) go back to the herd of animals, they will all be nice to you and won't attack you. What you need to do now is attack any animal EXCEPT the one you were taming previously. This will make the whole herd angry at you again, and you can now switch to stacking IP on the animal you began taming on. If you do attack the animal you were taming first, you will lose all the taming points you have acquired previously.

Another guide here: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Taming

Taming pigs is a little different, you'll need to use shallow water or a boat to stack IP.

Let me know if anything is unclear, like I said, rough guide :) HOPE DIS HALPS.
I had a retardedly huge signature and have gotten this embarrassing replacement to show for it.

Someone did a video guide about six (?) months ago. It's on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0XX9m6T1WQ
