You need to learn combat skills and have weapons equipped.

You can kill them with any of the weapons, or even unarmed.
The easiest weapon to be proficient with is the sling.
Make it out of leather and string. Raise Marksmanship to shoot faster
Sit in a boat while you are shooting so the animals can't reach you

I just made my first sling and tried to kill a fox from my boat. I dunno if I missed or hit it, combat engaged, I was trying to "hit" it (still don't know if I succeed, but Im afraid not), stones were used for sure. In the end fox jumped on my boat and stunned me, then jump again and left me only 25hp, by miracle I survived this...

I was doing as guide said, and still don't understand what I was doing wrong.

when hunting from a boat stay a tile back from land. the fox can't jump in your boat, but if your boat is close enough to shore he can still attack you. if you're ever hunting and you see what you're hunting hit either you or your boat back away quickly!

Two problems:

1. Your boat was too close to the shore.
2. Most likely you were releasing the stone too soon. Stand still and let the aim meter fill with color before clicking a second time.

The aim meter fills with color over time at a speed based on your marksmanship and capped by 2x your sling quality.
If you or the target move at all, it will (at low marksmanship) drain or (at high marksmanship) fill at a slower rate.
Your hit/miss chance is directly determined by how full the aim meter was when you released the stone.

Although it's possible to kill animals at nearly any marksmanship level, slinging things with less than 20 marksmanship is agonizingly slow =/

I think theres something else tied to it...in my experiences(and there was a thread about it somewhere with other people noticing the same) you have a higher chance to hit in the upper yellow than you do in the lower-middle green. since it takes far less time to get to upper yellow when your mm is low its probably the best time to fire.

Ok, I think I got an idea: the bar should become yellow or green. But, well, I may sound even more noobier, but...
it remains red even when fully recharged!
Do I need to do something else for it to become yellow and green? I tried to wait, but it was still red
Maybe raise markmanship to some level? Currently I have markmanship 2 ( I thought raising it by 1 would help, but nope)
