How far does a boar follow me?

Postby Antaraner » Tue Sep 25, 2012 12:36 am

Today my char died through a boar. I met the boar in the woods, thought i was far away till it tried to charge. thought i could run away.... I ran till my stamina was empty but it still followed me.CLosed the browser and tried to log in to port to the heartfire. It didnt let me said i was already logged in :(. When I got into my acc my char was gone aka dead. The boar even camped my dead body when i rushed to my dead body with a new char. That way it was nearly impossible to get my stuff back. ( and no i dont let my backpack and stuff lying around)
Is t even posible to escape a boar. I mean can you run away or will it never stop to chase u ? I am starting my third char now. And the ones before died through boars, its getting annoying.

Boars will follow you as long as you are aggro'd with them, and in that state you cannot log out or quick travel. When aggro'd, if you are near a house, run into it. you may need to toggle trespassing if it is on someone else's claim. In the least, it will give you a better chance of logging out and then logging back in at your HF.
In the wilderness, try and get to the nearest shallows as fast as you can. Just be sure to be on the edge away from critter, and head in direction opposite of them. This is one of the few times it is good to have swimming since it will help you get around obstacles on the bank. Just keep an eye on your stamina bar to make sure you don't drown. And if you do get KO'd there is still a chance that they won't kill you, but it seems that you haven't had any luck with that.

You can outrun them at speed 3. It's good to keep a bucket and waterflask with you at all times.

1st off, get a custom client(most of us use Ender's client) and turn on show radius. with show radius you can see a big pink circle where a boar is, since you're able to see them from farther away you're less likely to get in its range and have it become aggresive.

2nd closing the client during combat doesn't log you out, if you're in combat you remain in combat til its either over or you're dead!

3rd to answer your actual question, a boar will follow you as long as it is able. your best plan when you're being chased is to run inside a house(they may be able to break a log cabin, I know a bear can but I'm not 100% sure about boars) and wait for it to deagro you and then you can log off safely, but it may trash part of your camp...as long as the boar is in the box in the top right corner its still attacking you, if you get far enough away that it turns into a question mark keep going and it will break the combat allowing you to go on with what you were doing

4th get a boat and do your foraging along a river this way if you run into an aggressive animal you can get in your boat and not have to worry about it

Boars can break a lot of stuff - even wells very fast. They don't break houses and they need some time to break Carts. I've also never seen a Bear break a house...

Most important with new chars is to get better shoes (Bunny slippers) and Kuksa (2x and have them in your Inventary).

Also explore your your area to know in which directions you gain advantages:

If you have to run from animals - mudflat, grassland and heath allow higher speed. Lake shores are safest with their wide shallows where animals don't go - river shores are mostly ok too.

In woods animals mostly have advantages as they faster bypass obstacles.

In every case - closing the client never logs you out right away - you're still vulnerable for some seconds!

thank you all for your answers. I thought the animal have aggro ranges where they stop following you from the point they startet to folllow you . But it looks like you have to reach a point where they cannot get you or run the 4x speed to escape.
