what str do you need to be able to mine

I'm at 45 str and i STILL can't mine?

Strength isn't the only requirement for mining. What tool are you using and what quality is it?

Things you can do to help increase your chances of mining:
Smoke Boar Tusk Snuff
Drink Wine
Wear Bear Cape and Bear Tooth Talisman of good quality (may have to trade for it)
Full Barbarian slider
Trade for a pickaxe of good quality
Look for a softer ore vein
Eat Str food when your hunger permits

I had to do nearly all of that when I first started mining myself, but right now I'm able to mine most anything on the first level and most of the stuff I have on the second.

with a Q10 axe i'm thinkin u want your Str over 150ish? with a Q90 pickaxe Str over 40


rough numbers, mayby someone can refine them as I haven't mined since i died So lonnng ago.

Thanks to the answers on this. i was wondering the same thing. been playing since world 4 and its a shame how much ive forgotten over my break.

pickaxe or stone axe doesn't matter, pickaxe mines faster than a stone axe of the same quality, but only quality counts for whether you can actually mine it or not, so if you have a higher stone axe than pickaxe you can mine more stuff. while some things you may not be able to mine at all with a pickaxe you can with a stone axe and with a very low quality pickaxe you'd mine much slower than a high quality stone axe, and a pickaxe drains stamina alot faster so....

formula to decide if you can mine an area: sqrt(strength * toolquality) if its higher than hardness of the material you're trying to mine you can mine it. its all about how hard/soft the area you're trying to mine is! I mined my first metal this world with 10 strength and a q10 stone axe(call it luck) because I found a very soft spot.

with this im taking it sqrt is square root? and with hardness... how do i find how hard the area im mining in?

You don't even manage to scratch that rock.
That rock is very much too hard for you to mine.
That rock is much too hard for you to mine.
That rock is slightly too hard for you to mine.
That rock is just slightly too hard for you to mine.

each message determines how close you are...at the bottom you could be 2 str or quality away from mining it, at the top you're atleast 75 mining ability away! so look at the messages you get when mining and go the direction it gets easier and you may be able to find something you can already mine.
