trolling a troll

Simple question for trollrunners:

what is better to mine for troll: stripes or area?


i spoke with my friend wich mined about 50k tiles in square area without any troll and he's saying that area mining (square) won't spawn troll
i've also seen loong stripes on lv 5 mine (trollmines) so it looks like mining in stripes gives better effect ...
could somebody tell me is it myth or true please

Unfortunately the probability of a troll spawning at all is so incredibly minuscule that there's really no way to determine any sort of statistical findings with any sort of accuracy. Sure you can say "I got a troll the first time I ever stripe mined and not a single troll in over 100k tiles of square mining!" but the fact is that without a sample size that's in the millions of tiles then it's simply an anecdote and confirmation bias.

The only way to know for sure is for loftar to explain how it works, which won't likely ever happen.

Its not true. Both ways produce trolls.
