Rather than being an ass and just pasting a link to the wiki, I'll give you the time of day. Going into a minehole (1st level) and going into a cave are the same thing, except you can't mine within 50 tiles of a cave entrance.

The amount of strength needed differs and is based on 2 criteria: the quality of the tool you are mining with (obviously you will need a MUCH higher quality stone axe than a pickaxe) and the "softness" of the particular tile you are mining.

In short, the answer varies. But if I had to gave you a range of strength needed to mine on level 1, i'd say anywhere from 50-100 and you should be able to mine just about anywhere.

Grims 50-100 STR is the appropiate number even if it can happen that you'll catch a softer wall...

With STR at 50

and by pushing Personal Belief to Barbarism. A pickaxe min. q25

and Personal Belief at full Industry should be a good start.

Ya what they said...

My 2 cents though.
I have on rare occasions managed to mine ( very slowly mind you) with only 16 STR and a Q26 stone axe.

Both answers above are quite correct.

As to Dagrimreefah I certainly cared. The wiki is very informative on the topic and said things much better than i could.

The softness mod was very player friendly in that specific ocassion, though its really rare.
