The client doesn't show pie-slice or other when prospecting?

I want to build a minehole at surface ground. but when i prospecting in palisade ,the client doesn't show any pie slice or dowsing direction only a dialog box :" no minerals found " . im using last ender's client and make "show dowsing direction " is checked. after walk 10+ tiles several times,still only show : " no minerals found " . How is it ?

There really might be no minerals close

1. go further away + prospect again

or

2. build minehole + dig a bit + prospect again
