Valorous Strike

Postby NOOBY93 » Wed Apr 03, 2013 8:41 pm

Just today I decided to mess around a bit, and I could usually instant-kill a fox with my trusty militia sword, it occurred that I couldn't kill it with a valorous strike. Couldn't even bring it's def down to 0. it brought it down to 7. So I was wondering, what's it even for?

Strategically, if the advantage isn't towards your favor, you can use it to not just deal a lot of dmg, but to reset advantage.
It has a pretty long cooldown, though. So use this at times of desperate need.

Update: It also seems to grant the opponent 2 ip, as well...

Valorous is mostly good for longer setup battle strategies if you're pure Melee. It lets you ignore your defense for a little bit so that you can build up IP until you're ready. Then when your opponent starts to rush you down for CA, you can VS to reset battle while putting them on the defensive due to its extra weight.

The longer cooldown and loss of combat advantage make it a risky gambit over Sting though.

Yeah but it DOESN't deal a lot of damage. It's not about the fox's agility because I could later 1-hit it with sting...

Reset battle? Intensity? And, the extra weight doesn't help... Still didn't do extra damage to def... Sorry for being such a noob, btw, I'm new to pure melee. I have 80-ish melee anyway though, and sting one-hit brings it's def down, sometimes kills, usually runs away. VS doesn't... Weird.

That is very strange indeed. Sting should use 1x your Melee skill while Valor should use 1.75x. So at 80, you should be taking off 80 def with one sting and 140 with one valor.

By reset battle I meant Combat Advantage. An opponent may seek to chip you away quick and build up their own combat advantage in this manner. This is usually done with jump+punch spam, but I'm sure there are other tactics. Combat Advantage gives you more weight in combat and takes weight away from your opponent.

Theoretically the shift in Combat Advantage could be turning the tide. At 0/0 Combat Advantage you have 100% weight. With 5 Combat Advantage in your favor, you have 200% weight. With -5 Combat Advantage you have 50% weight. Even at -5 CA, your Valor should be doing damage similar to a Sting at 0 CA.

OOOH. Wow! Skill = exactly the mount of def I'm taking away, and weapon quality = only how much real dmg I do? THANKS.
Edit: That really helped! Thanks, just owned a boar, gonna test on some more foxes now though
