A Question From Someone Who is Scared to Death

Alright, I need you people to confirm some game mechanics for me, as I'm shaking in my seat from fear.
So, a few hours earlier, I was hunting from a boat, looking for animals. As I was sailing, I came across a small leather-making operation. Four drying racks, four tubs, four crates. The drying racks all had q100 hides on them. As the area was unclaimed, I proceeded to take the hides, thinking nobody would/could find me later. A few hours later, after a subsequent hunting trip, I found some person perusing through my crates (At this point you should know that as my palisade is incomplete, and that there is a rather large hole on the side opposite the gate) and I said "Hello?", confused, not knowing it was a thief (heat of the moment, give me a break). He quickly replied "hi" and hearthed home. About 15 minutes later, a Russian fellow in a pumpkin mask showed up outside my palisade, asking about "The hides." and asking to kin me, which I did (and now regret). We then had a short conversation, after which I agreed to give the hides back and he give the stolen goods back. I rounded the palisade and dropped them about 15 squares away from him, and hearthed home quickly, too scared to take my goods back. Apparently, he thought I would go up right next to him to give the goods back, and typed out a PM around the lines of "How about I give them back to you by force?" as I was dropping them. Safe (for the most part) inside my palisade walls, I begged him to be gone. He said "I will be back." and logged off. About 5 minutes later, he logged on again, and without a word, began rounding my palisade, presumably to come and kill me. I panicked and went inside my house and in my bed, thinking I'm safe.

tl;dr, I stole something from an unclaimed area, so how was someone able to track me to my house with no scents?

And most importantly, CAN SOMEONE SUMMON ME?

I suspect you were scent baited. What happens is that someone stole from themselves with a theft alt so that they can track the "stolen" item which, I presume, is on your inventory or your home. As you can only be summoned if you left a scent (which you didn't since the hide was unclaimed). I would advise you to create an alt to interact with this person further so your character will not be killed off if the person has malicious intent.

No, I left the hides outside, which he didn't pick up. And thank you for your reply. I feel much safer now.

I thoroughly enjoyed your post. Fear is what makes this game fun, so when i hear of people scared and hiding it gets my blood boiling. I hope to see more of your posts in the future.

If you were to make youtube videos of your endeavour's, I would subscribe and watch them all.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy
