Mining collapse questions (removing supports)

Postby _Gunnar » Thu May 02, 2013 6:42 am

Now I know removing supports causes a massive cavein, but I have 3 questions about this

1. What can cavein rocks destroy? Houses? Hfs? Brick walls?
2. If someone has previously removed supports and cleaned up the mess, will building a new support and then breaking that cause another massive cavein?
3. Over what area do the rocks fall? The support radius?

Thanks!

You can never safely break a mine support. It will always cause a cave in. Building another support there first will actually increase the chances of a chain reaction. Anything without a soak gets destroyed by boulders, and this includes mine supports. (Just another reason to make sure to spread supports out as efficiently as possible.)

Use an alt just in case.

Yes.

3. Over what area do the rocks fall? The support radius?
Yes I believe so, Never seen any of the rocks fell off outside the area.

I am not sure about only things with a soak value are safe. Ive had a cavein on cheese racks before by hitting a support by accident and they were hit and fine. Maybe only so items are affected.

Exactly nothing but the player is affected by cavins. Not even trolls are affected. Cavins doesn't do any damage on structures. Even signs with no items in them are safe. Easy way to avoid getting hundred of cavins is to place down a mansion sign with a single stone in it. It will cover a large area and prevent cavins from landing on the ground. They will hit the hitbox of the non-built sign and be destroyed not damaging anything.

thats actually really cool :) and would have saved me a lot of time cleaning up the massive cheese palace we built :p

but then again, i did want to eat a mountain of cheese, so breaking those rocks was good for me
