Can anyone explain this a little better so I understand why this happens so much? I was once told when I was a super-newb that prospecting works just fine, *if* you know how to read it, and that these occurrences aren't a bug.

Prospecting does work just fine. First realize the quality of your rustroot extract impacts distance. Then realize there is alway something to detect. You only have a chance to detect something. Sometimes you may have to try a few times to get the trail again. Its like scents. You may not see one first but go in a house and come back out and there it is. The next issues with arrow pointing different spots or confused is you may have a case of two close nodes or even touching. This can just keep giving you arrows and never reveal ore type below you. I once had a node that acted oddly with arrows all pointing to a spot but never could get a metal type. When I mined to the spot there were two nodes intermixed.

I hope this helps.

Yeah I got tired of having my chain jerked so I straight mined over to one of the ghost nodes and hit ore. I just wish it woulda told me *what* ore, because I am only looking for iron lol.
