How to find coords.

Postby felixdrunk » Tue Jun 11, 2013 9:20 pm

I was wondering how to find my coordinates on the map so I can help my friends find me. Could someone please help? I see screenshots with coords in them all the time!

Coordinates are different depending on the map that is used. Most likely, no screenshot you've seen had a map that was a complete map of the whole world. Until one exists, coordinates on any local map are relative to the other tiles on that specific map, so other maps might assign different coordinates to the same tile.

Until a world map pops up the only real way to figure out the rough position of your home is to walk until you find a world corner.

However, for your friends to find you, considering they've already become established in the world, you must have them join a party with you. An arrow will then appear to your location on their screen. You want to make sure you're outside and all on the same layer, i.e, on the surface and not in a cave.

You won't be able to determine very clearly how far you are all apart, but if you pay attention to the way the arrow moves, you can get a fair sense.

To give an idea of how long it may take to travel across the world, when you know where you need to be and take the shortest route to get there on a trip stretching a few supergrids (5000x5000 tiles = 1 Supergrid), that's going to run you a few hours, so be prepared for the worst case scenario. You can also take the trip days at a time, or even just provide them your hearth secret for them to spawn at your location using the person located in the corner of the room at the character creation room, and not the ladder.

Good luck!

The arrow is bugged 50% of the time, it's easier to click on their potrait while in a party to do the job.

You could zoom out and make your minimap huge and look around for your party members' "X"

the X on the minimap only shows up if they're in the same minimap grid as you, so zooming it out doesn't help.
