"tick" length

Postby hazzor » Wed Jun 12, 2013 10:31 pm

ok so the wiki actually says 5 minutes 33 seconds, but what I really want to know is how to properly execute the bug to use one unit of fuel rather than the actual required amount, I leave one charcoal in my smelter/oven/kiln for about 10 minutes then set it going, that way it'll finish in one tick and only use one unit of fuel, can anyone explain this bug to me in a little more detail and if I can actually do it faster than 10 minutes
Oh boy, here I go cheesemaking again...

put the shit you want to cook in the thing you want to cook it in.
wait the number of ticks required -1, e.g. 2 ticks for a pie, which requires 3 ticks to cook
put 1 fuel in and light it

The area just needs to unload and then reload for you. Areas can unload in as little as a minute or two or in 15 minutes. It seems to be random when it unloads. The one requirement for it to unload is for no players to be in the area. Logging off, walking away, or going into a cave/mine/house will start the unloading process.

I don't think so. Never had any problem using this bug as a hermit. Even logging off went just fine.
Hope you have a great day

I think teckx means you can also unload the area for "infinite" ticks achieved towards cooking time?

But the rest is right. I usually just wait the whole cook time, then pop in a branch to finish it.

Hrm, perhaps my understanding of the cooking bug is flaws then. I thought you loaded the food items into the oven, unloaded the area, then started the fire? I had believed that it was the unloading that was the crux of the entire process.

My mistake then and my apologies. Clearly this thread has benefited me too. =)
