Taming

I'm trying to tame 3 animals at once.

I have 3 ropes, one for each animal, when I did the first quell on each animal it showed the 20 above it, then I wait until one of them agro me (and they all agro me).

I then do another quell on each of them, but the numbers haven't shown up. I've done atleast 6 quells on each of them over the last hour and a half, what am I doing wrong?

When I put the rope in my inventory, they still follow me.

I'm not sure, but don't you have to tame them one by one?

Hmm never tried it so you could be right.
Maybe unequipping rope stops the taming process?
maybe only 2 at once with 2 rops equipped (yoh don't have 3 hands i suppose lol

It stops only if you drop the rope.

You can only tame 2 at one time and you have to keep the ropes in your hands at all times while taming. If you dequip a rope it resets the taming. It is possible to tame 2 but you can't tame 3 as you can't carry the 3rd rope in your hand.

You're sure you alone did tame 3 Aurochs to cows at one time ?!?

Okay, well now the numbers started showing up for two of them (I had to remember which rope was theirs, and only have that one equiped. So they're tamed. But the third one is still grumpy and refuses to show numbers
