Some questions about Game Client and Food Meter

Postby phoenixbowman » Fri Jun 14, 2013 4:33 pm

I am thinking about playing Haven and Hearth. Though when I read about it online I figured it was a Browser game. When I hit play now something was downloaded. What will happen if I install that .jnlp file?

Also, I saw that on the Forum that there is a Food Meter. Does this drop even when someone is logged off?

It is not a browser based game, it is a standard game with a client that you download. If you have java installed (preferably the latest version) then you'll download the game, run it, and the client window will open up asking you to log in. =)

The food meter does not tick down while you are offline. You currently have no physical presence in the game if you're offline, however if you've been committing crimes then your character can be forcibly summoned back into the game.

I have that autohaven file. So when I run it will that install game folders and files onto the computer? Unless I just click the game file.

I know it's silly to ask here, but I really really hope there are no viruses and/or spyware. Someone is generous enough to let me use their computer and I do not want to mess it up with a a virus or spyware.

No viruses or spyware. I'm glad you're concerned for your friends computer, that is the proper way to go about things. =)

@phoenixbowman

you can open jnlp files with an Editor (they're kind of XML) so you'll see what gets downloaded and where from

Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<!--

   This is a Java Web Start file. If you are reading this text,
   it most likely means that you have not installed Java, which
   you will need to play Haven and Hearth. The easiest way to get
   Java is probably to go to http://www.java.com/ and download
   it.

   It might also mean that you are just curious, in which case I
   bid you to go ahead. 'Tis a good thing.

So all I have to do is run the autohaven file and it will install the client? Then do I hit the "Play" button or do I just run the game from the client?

Open with Java Web Start Launcher - it downloads all needed files - the jnlp files steers that - you don't need to push Play Button again - after DL is finished the client window opens and you can create a new char

its best to use 1 of the custom clients found in the wizard's tower subforum so you aren't disadvantaged by the small game screen of the default client...and the ability to hide objects is great because it keeps you from missing a foragable thats behind a tree/house/stone...and the radar is great, as is show animals(keeps bears from jumping frm behind trees mauling you since you have a big red warning circle)...enjoy

ps: make sure you read HERE first

SuperNoob - you sure remember this from a PM answer to you

I think ppl should be able to solve one problem first ( running the default client, understand a bit what goes on) before coming with even bigger problems to forums (what is custom client, where can i get it, what is run.bat, why doesn't work this ...)

It doesn't help that you always advertise custom clients before OPs haven't even the default running

well think of the default client as a dog sled and the custom client as a car, you have to learn either you plan to use, so why not learn the better of the 2?
