Fishing?

I apologize if this is question has some obvious answer, but I couldn't seem to find an answer on the wiki or the how-to. So, I equipped my fishing pole, and I also have a worm, a lure, a hook, and a plant fibre (String?) in my inventory. Even though I have all of the prerequisites, I still get a message saying I need a fully equipped fishing rod in order to fish. What am I doing wrong? (Again, sorry if this question has an obvious answer!)

Click component, right click on the rod. Once you attach line, hook and bait you'll be able to fish.
