Get to a different area

Postby Russaria » Tue Nov 03, 2009 9:16 am

Seems a very interesting game but there's some serious frustration involved, though the "basics" seem to be covered in several noob gudes, it's basically "build fires and make pots" meanwhile you starve to death in the beginner area, everything is blocked off, there's nothing to find, you cant even fish without a bunch of crafting (i mean seriously, you started with a few loaves of bread..lol). SOme post said "Find a crossroads post and leave the area" or "build a boat"...like there's any trees reacheable in that maze of a beginners area?

Sorry for the rant but there needs to be a little bit more directional guide for the first few hours of play. IMO that first step should be to get OUT of that maze/mess and go somewhere where you can eat an apple or something..lol I only rant out of frustration because it does seem a very fascinating game but the "directions" people give almost suppose a foreknowledge of playing when they should be meant for totally virginal noobs..lol Where IS the crossroads post, how do you see it on the mini map, how do you get resources to build a boat and go far away..lol...when you are stuck starving in the crowded maze of the beginners area? Any help would be appreciated.

Haha.. you sound just like me when I first found this game. So frustrated that you couldn't even do anything in the game because everything was settled around you and resources were naught. If I were still in the Brodgar area I would have gladly helped you, took you around, showed you a few things like what to do, how skills work, etc. I am sure someone will take you under their wing and give you a crash course. It is well known that the current way how new players spawn is very flawed. Everyone knows of the eyesore that is the ROB, and everyone avoids it unless necessary.

The only thing right now that anyone can tell you is to leave the rob. Follow the roads east, use the Maplib to travel to and past Blandinsville (just using it as a marker). That is where the main destruction begins to end. Wilderness and tree's are abound. LVL 1 creatures for players to live off of. Apple and mulberry tree's. It can all be yours, for the limited price of a short walk.

Thanks, I will try that if I do not starve to death first..lol So going south or west where i see no activity or settlements (on that maplib ) is not wise or reachable? I do notice the rivers seem to cut across that area, but it looks deserted west and south?

I havent been there myself, but at the start... There was no way to cross rivers. Then there was swimming, but that did not work well... Eventually we got boats, but that was after several settlements were up. There are some over there now, just not nearly as many as in the NE. Caketown is the better known one, but you can see it on the maplib. Not many people update the maplib, and some people do not want to be on it.

Oh, just so you know, the map is only of the center supergrid. It is in the center of either a 3x3 or 5x5 grid of maps that size. I forgot how many there is. Several towns are out there, hiding from the rest of us.

If you are close to starving keep your eyes peeled for apple trees and mulberry trees. There will be many when you get far enough out.

I'm having the same problem. I'm quite stubborn so I spent at least an hour walking around trying to find my way out. Everything is either walled in, blocked by claimed land or impassable water. It feels like someone deliberately wants new players to quit before they start.

Walking east didnt help, the map didnt help. Any other suggestions?

If you hang around for a bit, I can come and give you a boat ride in some 15 minutes.
