My Dilemma

Postby Robi » Tue Jul 30, 2013 2:49 pm

Alright so I have a slight dilemma, and I wanted to get the advice of some more experienced players. I am a hermit, I play solely by myself, I've been playing for a month or so, and I have the ability to set up a village claim, I have the characters, and the means of having all of them on at once. Seems like a pretty good reason to toss up a Vclaim, right?

Well I have settled on a small island, that to more experienced factions would somewhat resemble a vault, although it only has palisade walls and several spots open for a ram. I am not a fighter, I've never had combat experience other than tossing rocks at animals. So I'm concerned that if I toss up a Vclaim it will attract the attention of larger factions. I really just want to have one just because I've never reached that milestone before in previous worlds, and crossroads would be quite handy. Not to mention I don't want my comfy little island home to get claimed over by a village.

A friendly village nearby has spoken of an outpost that belongs to a larger, more powerful faction, I don't want to give specifics for my own protection. But said faction has been known to raid in the area every now and then. So that's a huge concern.

What should I do?

I would put up the v claim if I were you. Crossroads outweigh the negatives, which I think you over exaggerate.

A vclaim attracts no more attention than just a palisade would. especially if you're not aggressive about expanding it.

Only way you'd attract their attention more is mass statuing/bannering or going after a claimed resource with it. I assume you're not doing that. Beyond that though, they already know you're there.

Fair enough, excuse my concern, my experience playing this game never really ended well in previous worlds, so I try to play cautiously and not make any enemies. Thanks for the advice :)

No worries mate, and for haven I really do suggest paranoia. But in this particular case you're in the clear.

I would heavily suggest a brickwall, palibashers are starting to become common for the raiding oriented factions.

I would love to, although I have to discover metal first. But that's a work in progress.

You could always head to the trading forum once your village idol is up. I don't know how your finances are looking, but ~6 pearls should be enough to get you the metal for a brickwall.

Just, be sure to specify if you need it to be on a barter stand. If you use alts, you should make a barter stand for yourself. Read up on the details of using a barter stand here: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Barter_Stand
