Boat saftey when foraging from the water.

So I was out foraging today in my boat and had gone ashore to gather some plants when someone comes along and takes my boat. Given that the most valuable thing on it is either the boat itself or a ql24 Bloated Bolete it's not that big of a loss but it got me wondering how do you keep your boat safe while foraging like this / how much storage do you carry in the boat.

Options I can see.
1. Leave the boat at the shore it's rare enough that the boat is taken that it's not an issue.
2. Move the boat a short way on to the land so the other person would need to spend time getting the boat and be less likely to bother.
3. Carry the oat on my head at all times and have the foraging take longer.

Or something else? How would this vary with how valuable your cargo is?

Carry the boat until you cant see the river. Always works. (Or almost always.)

I am one that do not stray too far from my boat when alone due to the reason above but, more important, if there is someone within the vicinity (anyone) you are in a boat when that someone is hostile so I can retreat easier. The other option is to dual-client when foraging with a cargo alt. A single individual is an easier target than two while the alt can increase your inventory load (or haul a dead bear back go to trade). If faced with a hostile intent, someone cannot jump into the boat and fight you there. Finally, the alt can be a "boat-keeper" if you decide to go inland further than normal.

If you truly are "just foraging," don't bother carrying chests. Get two q20+ traveller sacks and use those to haul. The boat is just there to get you around faster. When you fill up, head home. If you were gone long enough (about 15-20 minutes), you can head back and everything will respawn. The exception I have is when I'm hunting grey clay and mussels, which you never really leave your boat for.

I agree, keep a set route for foraging, and if u r just foraging do it close to home so you can hearthwarp fast. If you do go inland do not go far, you can usually just leave the boat a couple steps from shore and dont venture far from it. Longtimers usually tend to only use the boat to "go around the block" or to a specific field (like a swamp) otherwise they tend to have a walking rounte around their settlement that they go on , sort of a "hike" where u can easiy warp back if danger appears or end up back at home after you walk your hike trail. The idea of leaving your boat and going for a long walk inland just 2 forage is a little messy and not worth the trouble.
